Boutique fashion to five star hotels – City Business Awards winners announced

VIVO, a CBD café that "makes its coffee with love" has won Business of the Year in the third annual City of Sydney Business Awards.

More than 400 businesses were nominated across the City of Sydney area, showing the diversity of our local and CBD economy, from boutique fashion to five star hotels.

The awards, announced last night, recognise outstanding businesses across 28 categories including fashion, fresh food, takeaway, gyms, bars, hotels and hairdressers.

At a special presentation ceremony at Star City, Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP congratulated the 173 finalists; "Small businesses play a vital role in our local economies, define the City of Sydney's village characteristics and most importantly serve the community, visitors and workers."

The 2006 awards received an outstanding 9,197 nominations this year, a ten percent increase on 2005. The 173 finalists were then visited anonymously by independent judges.

The coveted Business of the Year Award went to VIVO Café and Restaurant, a much loved established business in the heart of Sydney. VIVO is very popular with local workers looking for a quick coffee for breakfast or an offsite meeting.

The Best Fresh Food/Grocery Award went to The Deli, Potts Point with its exceptional layout, beautiful displays and top rate customer service.

Best Restaurant Award went to city fine dining restaurant Omega, which offers contemporary and exemplary Greek food.

Peter Alexander in Sydney Central Plaza won best Women's Fashion category. Peter Alexander is noted for its excellent signage and fabulous display, a great range of products with happy, friendly and polite staff.

Best Entertainment Venue Award went to SBW Stables Theatre in Kings Cross, the only theatre company in Sydney entirely dedicated to the professional development and production of Australian plays.

Representatives from local Chambers of Commerce and business Associations also presented awards to outstanding businesses in their areas.
