LORD MAYOR CLOVER MOORE MP STATEMENT ON C40 Climate Summit in New York May 2007 What I'll be saying to 30 of the world's major cities at the C40 Climate Summit in New York is: More than half the world's population now lives in cities, so this is where we must develop new, greener ways of living. I'll be inviting leading cities from around the world to join Sydney to make a stand against global warming and make Earth Hour a global event. I'll be reinforcing the message that it's how we live, what we do, and how we consume that can ensure a habitable earth for our children. Sydney's Earth Hour showed that, co-operatively, we can make a difference to how people behave. More importantly, I'll be spreading the message that Earth Hour has to become Earth Always. Sydney is the first global city to blaze with fireworks for the New Year. Next year we want to be the first in a chain of cities to turn out the lights as a signal of our united commitment to a sustainable planet.
