Green is the new black: City Rangers sport new style
8 July 2007
City of Sydney Rangers are getting a makeover this week with new olive green uniforms to reflect their increasing educational, environmental protection and customer service focus, Acting CEO Garry Harding announced today. The new uniform includes a pale green shirt, dark green pants and jumper and a light brown Akubra hat to replace the old black and grey uniform which earned them the nickname 'grey ghosts'. "The new uniform is a bright, friendly and fresh look for our City Rangers," Mr Harding said. "It also reflects their new role as tourism ambassadors which includes providing directions to visitors and tourists and handing out pocket-sized maps. "Rangers have an extensive knowledge of the City, streets, landmarks, and places to go, and are great source of knowledge on how to get around the City." "The uniform also reflects City Rangers an increasing focus on pedestrian safety, environmental education and enforcement of littering and pollution laws. "Rangers are on call 24 hours a day and respond to a variety of community inquiries about noise, littering and parks." "Monitoring City parks and reserves and talking to pet owners about responsible pet ownership forms part of the core duties of City Rangers," Mr Harding said. The new uniform is designed to be more comfortable during the warmer months and new bomber jackets incorporating reflective safety strips will keep Rangers warm during winter and also negate the need to wear a safety vest. City Rangers were recently on CBD and village streets handing out free personal ashtrays to smokers to encourage them to bin their butts following the State Government's smoking ban inside pubs and clubs.
