Who ya gonna call? The future!

13 October 2007

A spiral-shaped phone booth will be at the Surry Hills Festival in Prince Alfred Park today Saturday 13 October as part of the City of Sydney's Sustainable Sydney 2030 consultation program.

The Future Phone is touring Sydney during the next few months providing residents, visitors and workers with the chance to phone the future and leave a message with their vision of Sydney in 2030.

More than 150 messages have been left so far with most visions focusing on sustainability, integrated public transport and creating more cycle lanes. Some of the more abstract visions include free beer and tree houses for our pets.

"The Future Phone is a fun and interactive way for Sydneysiders to contribute to the City's long term strategic planning project, Sustainable Sydney 2030," Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP said.

To 'dial the future' participants walk through a spiral-shaped phone booth, sit in a large green chair and pick up the phone to leave a 90 second message. All feedback received will be incorporated into developing Sustainable Sydney 2030 along with other forums, meetings, workshops and consultations which have been occurring this year.

"Sustainable Sydney 2030 is a vision, plan and specific projects to guide our city towards a sustainable future in 2030. When the future phone comes to a venue near you, take a minute to leave a message for the future. Your participation today will help shape Sydney's future," said Ms Moore.

To date, the future phone has visited two City events, Live Green in late August and the September City Talk, Creating a Great Pedestrian City featuring Danish Professor Jan Gehl.
