New Playground for Victoria Park

The City of Sydney will build a magnificent new playground in Victoria Park on City Road (next to Sydney University) in Camperdown.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP said the local community helped design the new playground, which will fit in with Victoria Park's heritage landscape. 

"The City plans to renew the playground to complement other high quality community facilities within the park.  We are aiming to inspire the imagination of children of all abilities through interesting and stimulating equipment and surrounds," Ms Moore said.

The existing playground contains a limited range of equipment with a gravel softfall. The new design includes a play facility to cater for a range of abilities and ages, from under threes and toddlers to school aged children and teenagers.

The City will fence the toddler's area with a low barrier fence to help control toddler movement.  The playground will remain a prohibited area for dogs. The playground will also include a bubbler, signage and seating.

The design which was developed to incorporate community comments includes:

• An all abilities climbing net and accessible swing;
• A flying fox;
• Nature play areas;
• Climbing, swinging and sliding play elements, including a double swing set,
• Balancing beams, spring elements, spinning dish and pipe slide;
• A toddler's tricycle loop; and
• A shade structure over the toddlers area.

As part of the renewal, the City will also plant six new trees.  Construction is due to begin in mid 2009.
