Good Neighbourhood BBQs promote a safer City
17 March 2010
The City of Sydney is encouraging local residents to get to know their neighbours with a new series of Good Neighbourhood BBQs being held around the City from March to May 2010. The BBQs provide an opportunity for residents to meet local Police and staff from the City's Safe City program, hear about planned improvements in the local area and discuss any neighbourhood safety or security issues in a casual and friendly environment. These local community days offer a free BBQ, safety and security advice, children's activities, live music from a sax trio and performances by the Erth Dinosaur Petting Zoo. "We know that the safest communities are those where people get to know each other, say hello to one another, collect their neighbour's mail when they are away and reach out to each other," Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP said. "Initiatives like the Good Neighbourhood BBQ Program encourage a sense of belonging and trust within our local communities and create a safe, friendly and more connected city of villages," said Ms Moore. The Good Neighbourhood BBQ Program has been running since 2005 and is organised by Council in partnership with local Police from The Rocks, Leichhardt, Newtown and Redfern Local Area Commands.
