SENIOR SUPERSTAR SYDNEY ON STAGE AT PADDINGTON RSL

SHOW STARTS AT 1.30PM

WHAT: A seniors’ show that has been a stage hit in Brisbane, will take place today to showcase the talents of our city’s over-55s.

Senior Superstar founder Pauline Bell and some of the talented over-55s will be available for interview.

WHEN: From 1.30pm, Saturday 23 March 2013

WHERE: Paddington RSL, 220 Oxford Street, Paddington

BACKGROUND: The City of Sydney is hosting the very first Senior Superstar Sydney to help celebrate Seniors Week, from 17-24 March.

Saturday’s acts include:

  • Phyllis Johnson, 81, from Darlinghurst, who started singing at 50 and has since performed with Heroes of Waterloo and Kelly’s Entertainers;
  • Cecil Parkee, 90, a ventriloquist from Marrickville and the eldest entrant;
  • Sylvia Lau, 62, from Central Sydney, who performs her own dance-Tai Chi fusion; and
  • Evelyn Chan, 66, from Kingsford, who will perform an Indonesian cowboy song.

To celebrate Seniors Week the City is hosting, in partnership with community organisations and community members, a range of free events including cooking classes, social media courses, film screenings, talks and debates, as well as talent showcase, Senior Sydney Superstar.

The events aim to strengthen community connections, celebrate the lives of our senior residents and provide opportunities for continuous learning, personal development and healthy ageing.
