The City of Sydney is looking for young live-music organisers to join its Sydney Youth Music Team, a volunteer group passionate about creating and delivering all-ages gigs.
Established in late 2012, the team have worked with the City on several live music gigs across Sydney, gaining experience on all aspects of organising an event, from media promotion to staging.
Lord Mayor Clover Moore said joining the team would provide young people interested in the music industry with first-hand experience.
“It’s important to start encouraging the next generation of live music performers and promoters, and the Sydney Youth Music Team is a great way to start,” the Lord Mayor said.
“We’re encouraging young people, aged 12-24, to join the team, gain invaluable insights into the live music industry, as well as creating a network of keen young music promoters and lovers.
“The City wants to see Sydney’s live music scene revitalised and has recently developed its Live Music and Performance Action Plan to create new opportunities for musicians and performers and overcome obstacles to live music and performance.”
The team will provide opportunities for young people to perform and enjoy the music, as well as organise and deliver events for their peers. Team members also have access to free workshops and seminars hosted by Music NSW throughout the year.
Over the past year, the team has organised an Almost Famous acoustic gig at 107 Projects in Redfern, the Live in Martin Place performance for Youth Week in the City and the Our Kind of Music concert at Cathedral Square to mark Mental Health Month in October.
If you are interested in joining the team, please contact City Youth Team Leader Jenna Bloom by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or send a message through Faceboook: #Sydney Youth Music.
The team will hold its first meeting for 2014 this month and will be working towards delivering a live-music gig in June.
