Budding entrepreneurs will be given the chance to see their business dreams become reality at an event bringing together more than 200 business, research and technology leaders with local startups.
Sponsored by the City of Sydney, CityIGNITE is a two-day event that will see public and private sector leaders join forces to explore smart city solutions through new technologies, data sharing and strategies to support local business people.
Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the City was committed to creating an environment that nurtures local tech startups and small businesses.
“CityIGNITE will be a great platform for businesses, researchers and entrepreneurs to see how data and technology can drive decisions about jobs, healthcare and transport for Sydney’s businesses, residents and visitors.
“This will showcase tech startups and offer smart city solutions that bridge the gap between government, business, academia and investors.
“It ‘s an ideal opportunity to further support the development of a strong entrepreneurial culture that will help us attract and retain talent and retain Sydney’s competitiveness on the global stage.”
CityIGNITE will take place at Sydney Town Hall from 16 – 17 October as be part of the 10-day startup event Spark Festival, which is also sponsored by the City. Organisers Quest Events received $10,000 cash support and $13,000 value in kind venue hire from the City.
CityIGNITE director, John Pozoglou, said the two-day event will feature presentations and panel sessions with leading local and international speakers and a ‘pitchfest’ for tech startups and small businesses to put forward new business ideas.
“At its heart, CityIGNITE is about bringing together City and government leaders, business and technology leaders, incubators, accelerators, startups and research institutions to find solutions to major city challenges,” Mr Pozoglou said.
“It provides a platform for the development of technology innovation ecosystems that will stimulate economic growth and unlock opportunities through partnerships.”
