More than 5000 pots of floral and edible blooms will be given away across the city this week following the conclusion of the City of Sydney’s Living Colour displays.
Living Colour brightens up the city’s most frequented public spaces with stunning floral blooms every spring and summer.
The current summer displays have been in place since January and will now be 100 per cent recycled, with all plants either given away, reused in schools, day care centres, community gardens or replanted in our parks.
The main giveaway event will be held at Sydney Park from 8am on Sunday, where visitors will be asked to make a gold coin donation to support the RSPCA in exchange for a plant.
A small number of plants will also be available from Town Hall House, Glebe Library, Kings Cross Neighbourhood Centre, Ultimo Community Centre, Pyrmont Community Centre, Redfern Neighbourhood Centre and Green Square Neighbourhood Centre from Wednesday.
Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the City’s Living Colour displays were designed to help green our city and make it more interesting and appealing.
“We hope these beautiful plants will brighten up our residents’ backyards, balconies and common areas,” the Lord Mayor said.
“The main giveaway event at Sydney Park is incredibly popular – every single one of the 4000 plants found a new home within an hour at the last giveaway. I encourage green thumbs to get there early to avoid disappointment.
“Take your pick from a variety of plants including rosemary, mint, thyme, marigold, coleus, westringia, dianella and laurentia.”
