Ever dreamed of being the next Lady Gaga or Gotye? If so, the City of Sydney’s Almost Famous Open Mic Night could be your ticket to hitting the big time.
This special Sydney Mardi Gras edition of the City’s popular open mic nights will be held on Friday 1 March in inner-city Redfern.
The event is free and open to budding musos, aged 12-24, and is funded by the City in partnership with the 2013 Sydney Mardi Gras Youth Festival and art event organisers 107 Projects.
All musical acts and genres are encouraged to enter, from folk to funk or flautists. There will be a wealth of talent on show, in Redfern’s own version of Australian Idol.
On the program will be performances from solo, duo and group youth acts representing a range of musical backgrounds, as well as special guest stars.
Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the night would be a great opportunity for young performers.
“It can be difficult for young performers to get gigs outside the pub scene,” the Lord Mayor said.
“The Almost Famous Open Mic Night is a safe and supportive environment for young people to perform. You never know who will be there watching you – it could be the start of a career in the music industry.”
